Body treatments in aesthetic medicine

Body aesthetic medicine brings together the non-surgical procedures that Serena Clinic applies to the skin, the contour and the function of different areas of the body. Serena Clinic performs six of these treatments at its practice at Marià Cubí 128, Barcelona, under the autonomous health authorisation code U.48: E08571364.

What this area covers

Six non-surgical body treatments

Each of those six treatments responds to a different type of need. Cellulite and stretch marks affect the quality and texture of the skin. Buttock lift and body mesotherapy act on the contour and firmness. Hand rejuvenation and hyperhidrosis address specific needs of a particular area or function.

The indication depends on the specific need, the skin type, the relevant medical history and the reasonably achievable result. The results described may vary from one patient to another: this page is for information purposes only and does not replace an individualised medical assessment.

Area index

Body treatments, grouped by what they treat

The six body treatments at Serena Clinic are grouped into three blocks according to the tissue and the need they act on. Treatments within the same block are not interchangeable with one another.

Block 01 · Skin

Cellulite

Alteration of the subcutaneous tissue that produces an irregular appearance of the skin, especially on the thighs and buttocks. To improve its appearance, different mechanical or energy-based stimulation technologies may be considered, depending on the characteristics of the case. It is a chronic condition: results may require maintenance depending on how each patient evolves. Improvement is progressive and is not guaranteed in all cases.

Block 01 · Skin

Stretch marks

Dermal scars that appear after rapid stretching of the skin. Skin renewal technologies aimed at progressively improving their colour and texture may be considered. The result is a visible improvement; complete disappearance of the mark is not guaranteed.

Block 02 · Contour

Buttock lift

Non-surgical; it may draw on different medical techniques aimed at improving the firmness and contour of the area. The specific protocol is defined in the medical assessment according to each case. It does not replace a surgical procedure when the ptosis is marked.

Block 02 · Contour

Body mesotherapy

Superficial micro-injections whose composition the physician selects according to the area and the patient’s goal. It may be used as a complement in the treatment of cellulite and mild sagging, never as a substitute for diet or exercise. It may require several spaced sessions, depending on the indication, the composition selected and the evolution.

Block 03 · Area and function

Hand rejuvenation

It may combine procedures aimed at restoring volume with treatments targeting skin quality. The indication depends on the degree of volume loss, the skin alterations and the characteristics of each patient. How long the result lasts depends on the product used and the individual response. The result is not permanent and does not replace a dermatological assessment when other associated skin alterations are present.

Block 03 · Area and function

Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating that exceeds the normal thermoregulatory function. Serena Clinic has medical options to address it; the area, the technique and how long the effect lasts are determined individually in the medical consultation. The effect is temporary and is not guaranteed in all patients; it does not replace a medical assessment of other causes of excessive sweating.

Before the treatment

Medical assessment precedes any indication

Before indicating a body treatment, Serena Clinic carries out a prior medical assessment to study the case and define an individualised plan. In that consultation the medical history is reviewed, the body area is examined and the patient’s goal is compared with the reasonably achievable result.

The assessment makes it possible to define the technique, the area and, where appropriate, the material or the technology, as well as an initial estimate of sessions that may be adjusted according to how things evolve. It also indicates what is not appropriate: some goals require surgery rather than aesthetic medicine.

This assessment is carried out by Dr. Rafael Serena Sánchez, registered physician no. 29766 (Col·legi de Metges de Barcelona) and medical director of Serena Clinic.

Care process

How a body treatment is decided

These are the general steps of the care process at Serena Clinic; they may be adjusted according to the treatment and medical judgement.

01

First visit and assessment

The physician gathers the medical history, examines the body area and records the reason for the consultation. The assessment determines whether the need corresponds to body aesthetic medicine or to another of Serena Clinic’s areas.

02

Indication and treatment plan

The assessment makes it possible to define the technique, the area and, where appropriate, the material or the technology, as well as an initial estimate of sessions that may be adjusted according to how each case evolves.

03

Application and follow-up

The treatment is performed at the practice at Marià Cubí 128. Follow-up is adapted to the procedure and to how each patient evolves.

When the need is not body-related
